by Mark Roseboom
Crocheting and travelling – these two passions have been brought together by designer Mark Roseboom – aka The Guy with the Hook – in this book featuring 12 patterns based on Mark’s remarkable journeys. His goal was to visit some of the most interesting places in the world and soak in all the culture, lessons, experiences, and feelings they delivered. The patterns feature full written instructions in US crochet terms, charts, and Mark’s tips for success. Projects include 2 shawls and a scarf, plus various blankets, throws, rugs and more home decor.
Comments: While the projects are lovely and intriguing, this is not a project book for beginners. Even if you are an experienced crocheter, the project patterns require a lot of concentration, primarily because the formatting of the book makes it very difficult to read-- constantly changing background color blocks behind the text, changing text colors and fonts, lack of contrast in stitch charts, a paucity of schematics. Instead of beginning the patterns with an overall description of the project (what materials and stitches are required, a standard gauge for the yarn & hook called for, if the project is a single piece or made up of joined parts, etc) these bits of information are hidden in sections called "tips", or left up to the reader to calculate. The yarns called for are all from one manufacturer, so many readers may not have had experience with them, and without a standardized gauge substitutions are difficult. --- Laurel- Paperback
