Hiawatha Poncho

This poncho is rustic, warm and sexy--a unique combination that will have you looking great and feeling cozy as the weather begins to chill. The poncho works up fast using a heavy worsted yarn and is crocheted in the round from the top down, in order to provide optimum fit and almost zero finishing. Employed is an interesting and simple technique for weaving separate strands of yarn into the fabric while the poncho is being worked. Easy.
Gauge is 10½ triple crochet = 4 inches. Length is approximately 25" at longest point excluding fringe. Nine sizes based on body circumference including both bust AND upper arms. Choose the smallest size that equals or exceeds your actual measurement
Body circumference: 38" (42, 46, 50, 54, 58, 62, 66, 70") takes 690 (828, 828, 1104, 1242, 1380, 1518, 1794, 1922) yards main color heavy worsted weight textured yarn, and 100 yards each of two contrast colors. The yarn called for is a homespun, thick and thin type--look for a ball-band gauge of approximately 4 st per inch.
We would suggest Rendezvous, Aiko, Alpaca Cotton, or Summer Tweed for a warm weather version.
