Plötulopi Traditional Icelandic Wool
This is the un-spun single ply yarn that is the favorite of the native Icelandic knitters for garments of all kinds. Similar to pencil roving, it can be knitted with multiple strands held as one. Since Plötulopi is an unspun yarn, it is fragile to knit; however, due to the length of the fibers, it knits into a sweater that is both sturdy and soft. Breaks while knitting are easily patched back together with no harm done.
Two strands of Plötulopi is equivalent in gauge to Létt-Lopi, four strands is equivalent to Alafoss Lopi. You can also mix it directly with Einband or Létt-Lopi for more special effects. One of the most intriguing uses of this unspun wool is the mixing of colors to achieve new colors and degradé effects. This wool will most definitely open more creative doors for you.
This unique wool is sold by weight as a one-ply, flat roll, called a "plate". Each plate is 100 g (3.5 oz) plates with about 328 yards (300 m).
The gauge of course will vary depending on the number of plies used and the size of the needles used. Because of this it is imperative that you swatch this yarn in the manner in which you intend to use it. If you are knitting in the round, you should swatch in the round.
Gauge-1 ply: 19 sts to 10 cm (4") over St st using size 4½ mm (US 7) needles.
Gauge-2 ply: 14 sts to 10 cm (4") over St st using size 5½ mm (US 9).

Istex Plotulopi
This is my first experience using Unspun yarn. It takes a bit to get used to it. It does occasionally pull apart but you can spit rub it back together. It feels warm but a bit scratchy. I’ll know more when i finish this hat. Handknitting.com is a wonderful place to buy yarn, reasonable pricing and a personal touch.

Great yarn!!!! Thank you ☺️

They are beautiful
I've started using it. Very easy to work with but you should be aware that it is unspun and it breaks but heals itself. I'm not an expert knitter but I've practiced and I think I know how to use it now. I did lots of youtube research before I ordered it. I think if I master the pattern it will be gorgeous.

Great customer service
So impressed by the ability to write a note in my order regarding dye lot and it was read and a hand written note accompanied my receipt. I will definitely shop here first for my yarn needs before looking elsewhere. So personalized. Very impressive. Thanks so much!!!!
