Finally! A hemp you can handle! And one that won't fall apart or shed, either. This new yarn isn't nearly as stiff or scratchy as hemp yarn used to be, and it becomes softer as you wash it. Java comes in a big 100g ball containing 219 yards, so it goes a long way. Machine Wash, tumble dry low. 100% hemp, Java is a great choice for home decor projects due to its superior strength and durability. Fast growing and with a small carbon footprint, this natural fiber is easy on the environment. All this, and beautiful colors too!

- 4-5 st per inch in stockinette, size 6-9 (4-5.5mm) needles
- Crochet gauge is 14 stitches per 4 inches single crochet, size I-K hook

Knitting with hemp
The yarn is stiff at first but it does soften as you use it. I am making wash clothes with this yarn and they do soften after you use them. I’m happy with the project and yarn.

I had never knitted with hemp and it is certainly a different experience but once one is into the project the feel of the yarn dissapears and it is knitting! Try it and get the feel for it.

Perfect Placemat Yarn
I had read about this hemp yarn and thought it would work well for a set of placemats but couldn't find it anywhere local. Handknitting had it and shipped it right out to me. It's exactly what I hoped it would be.

Beautiful colors but only for outerwear!
I love this hemp but am not sure what I will knit it into! I started socks but found it hard on my hands and wondered whether I’d really want to wear hemp socks anyway! Would be great for market bags, aprons, other items not worn next to the skin!
